Brisbane Brewing Co – Gnarley Wine – Barley Wine

Why, why, why would the crazy brewers, Brendan and Simeon, of Brisbane Brew Co (BBC) brew the biggest beer that has ever been brewed in the history of Brisbane Brew Co…? Why the bloody hell not!

This English style Barley Wine is an absolute corker! The confirmed rumour is that 535 kilograms of grain was used in the mash!!. That, my friends, is a recipe for malty fun times. Hop balanced beautifully; this sweet, caramel, orangey, taste explosion is massive. Totally Gnarley! Hands down one of the nicest big bodied barley wines I’ve tasted in a long time.

This bad boy was fermented in ten days, and matured over two months. I remember Nic (number 1 man at BBC), telling me and my mate about this brew all those 2 months ago. Needless to say, the excitement was brewing. I think my excitement was fermenting hotter than the tank!  Of course, I used beer as my ‘cooling coil’ alternative and downed litres and litres of tasty brews over the months as it was maturing.

Now the wait is over, the brew is tapped and will be in the line-up at Archive’s Armakeggon, this Saturday, 29 August 2015! I’ll taste this a few times over. Yes, it may wave dump me, but I’ll keep getting up until I’m washed ashore!

Now, if you can’t make it to Armakeggon, and I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be able to make time to taste over 40 beers in one day, you can always head down to BBC and drink it straight from its motherland.

Brendan and Simeon, you’re both magnificent brewers. ‘Insert hat tip here’

What’s more, these chaps brewed a parti-gyle through the Gnarley Wine mash and soured with yoghurt! Aptly named Party Guile – Sonic Boom, this Sour Ale needs to be tasted time and time again. I can’t get enough of it!  By far one of my favourite sours on tap! Head down to Brisbane Brewing Co for a pint or 2, every day until it runs out! Then have a cry because it’s gone you greedy bastards!

The Technical:

Malts: Australian Pilsner, Dark Crystal, Brown Malt
