Beer buffs know that Stone Brewing Co brew awesome big bottomed, hop combo’d Californian IPAs, and are always experimenting to burst new hoppy flavours into the IPA arena. Enter, Delicious IPA.
Granted, the name isn’t all that creative, but it’s pretty much on song. It is a hoppy brew made for those who love a hop explosion, AND for those who can’t handle their gluten. This brew is gluten reduced. A scientific process I’m not really qualified to regurgitate, breaks down the gluten proteins making this an almost gluten free brew.
There was a time in my life when I thought that I may be intolerant to gluten; I wasn’t. I just ate far too much bready and carby foods, and bloated like a dead cow. Anyway I tried drinking gluten free brews; not for me. Actually, gluten free anything doesn’t have the taste profile I so desire, except this beer. It surprised me. The reduced gluten has absolutely no affect on flavour.
It’s a strange brew, but in a great way. It is very light, but very hop forward. It has a great lemon profile. It’s has bitterness that lingers but doesn’t turn unpleasant. Also, one of the hops used to brew Delicious IPA is one I have never had before; Lemondrop!
Hops: Lemondrop,Nugget, Calypso, El Dorado
Colour: Dark amber
Taste: Bitter, citrus, hoppy!
Overall: A great brew that is low in gluten that doesn’t close the great hoppy Californian IPA flavour.
